In Nebraska, Botox injections are considered medical practice and must be administered by physicians; independent practice nurse practitioners (NP) if the treatment is beyond their scope of practice and they are operating within their position and population focus (NPs who have completed 2000 hours of practice under a transition-to-practice arrangement with a physician or independent NP are considered independent NPs); and nutraceuticals.


Botox injections can be administered by registered nurses (RNs) if they have a signed provider order from a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant; the provider has completed a face-to-face examination of the patient; and the RN has the expertise, experience, and ability to competently and safely perform the procedure.


An unaffiliated activity If [1] it falls within the scope of practice, position, competency, and population emphasis of the NP, [2] the NP provides a written order and performs a face-to-face evaluation of the patient, and [3] the RN has the expertise, ability, and training to safely and competently perform the procedure, the NP may allow the procedure to be performed by an RN.
