In Maine, Botox injections are considered medical practice and must be administered by a licensed physician, an independent practice nurse practitioner if it falls within their scope of practice (NPs must practice for at least 24 months under the supervision of a physician or a supervising NP before being granted independent practice), an NP under physician delegation and supervision; or a physician under physician delegation and supervision.

Non-physicians other than those mentioned above may be delegated this procedure under physician supervision and control if they have successfully completed a training program authorized by the Board of Medical Licensure in Medicine and a competency test determined by this board.

Practice on your own If;

[1] it falls within the scope of practice of the independent practice NP

[2] it is pursuant to the nursing delegation rules

[3] The NP requiring a supervising NP/physician, RN, and LPN have the education, skill, and training to safely and competently perform the Procedure, NPs may delegate this procedure to an NP (who has not completed the 24 month supervision requirement for independent practice), RN, or LPN.
